Fort Payne Wildlife Trapper Tip of the Month:
How to get rodents out of a wall
Your home is a place of comfort. It is a place where food is abundant. It can be a shelter from the rain, snow, and the sun. That’s why humans – and mice – love it so much. You might be a little unnerved when you hear scratching inside your walls. Chances are you might be infested with mice especially if you live in rural areas.
Evidence of Rodent Infestation
You might see telltale signs like holes on your breakfast cereal boxes. You might also hear something scurrying at night. They usually run and make a lot of noises when hunting for food. They also leave droppings near their nests. You might see gnawed clothing electrical wires and furniture inside your house. They use these gnawed things to make their nest. And if you see an actual live mouse running around, that is a sure sign that your house is invaded by rodents.
Where Mice can be Found
Mice typically live in dark and damp places. They can crawl in small spaces, access various ducts and holes. They live in hidden areas where they can be difficult to catch. Mice can chew on wood inside your walls. This can cause the foundation of your home to deteriorate fast. They also rarely live during the day because they are nocturnal.
Ways to Get Rid of Mice Living in Walls
You can put a trap at the mice’s entry points. You can put a trail of peanut butter that leads to a trap in order to catch them immediately. The use of poison is not recommended. Mice can die slowly. They might retreat deep into the walls’ structure before dying. This can leave a smelly and messy problem if you use poison.
You can also use live-catch traps. After you catch your first mouse, you can release them far away from your home. However, this is not recommended if there are a lot of mice living already inside your house. They might come back and bring more damage. Use glue traps if you want to catch little mice. They will not be able to leave the traps. You can get rid of them by throwing the trap at least 2 miles away from your house.
You can also drill a hole in your wall. Place a cardboard box and fill them with cheese or other baits. Mice generally just eat whatever food that comes its way. They can be easily lured into the trap and get thrown far away.
Prevent mice from entering your house
You must secure vulnerable entry points around your house. You should plug holes permanently, clan your attic, and trim your bushes. Trimming your bushes and shrubs at least 17 inches will enable you to see any walls around your house that you might have missed. You also need to remove any magnet that might attract rodents to your house in the first place. If the DIY method doesn’t work, you might consider calling a professional pest control company to remove the mice from your home.
